TORSE Orleans
Last Updated: 2026-06-21 14:39:43
This'll be short ...
Sadelle's in Bellagio for breakfast, back to the room to pack up my backpack and on to Orleans for TORSE.
I won the first hand at the table, then after that I won exactly one meaningful pot the rest of my tournament ...
Bought in a little late and was the first person to sit at a new table. Had to sit and wait for at least 4 to start dealing, and we had the slowest dealer on the planet who didn't bother asking the floor what game we were starting with or where the button should be ... so he dealt for the button and just started with 2-7.
First hand out of the gate I draw 2 on the first draw, pick up a good card, and on the second draw make #2 (7-6-4-3-2) with someone betting into me. I actually missed one raise in there, but still always nice to start out with a win.
But nothing going on the rest of 2-7 or O8 and it was on to Razz.
Twice start out good and both times catch nothing but face cards and pairs and have to give up. Lost a chunk there, then nothing going on in stud high.
Finally something goes my way, and I still can't believe I won half of a massive pot.
Basically I start out with 7-T-7 and with not much action on 3rd street I decide to call and see what happens.
Pair my 10, so two pair off the bat and no 10s or 7s out. And everyone else is clearly going for the low.
I catch a jack, at this point everyone else in the hand has two small cards and one face card, but still there is betting and raising and the pot is capped. Someone gets one of my 7s but still no 10s out there, I'm not going away ...
Pair my jack, there's a bet and a raise from a guy showing three clubs, but still nobody can make a straight and still everyone is calling down with obvious low draws. A 10 and a 7 are now out, but no jacks so I at least have four outs to a full house.
I miss, apparently so did everyone else because it finally checked down at the end. Nobody had more than one pair, the flush draw missed and my two-pair jacks and 10s is the only two-pair.
Started with 35k, that hand took me from around 25k to around 42k.
But get hammered in 2-7, 3 or 4 hands I had solid one and two card draws and missed every one. 33,300 at the break.
Then I get brutalized in Razz. Start with A-3-5, catch a 9 and a king. Done.
Start with 6-3-9, everyone else catches bad but I catch even worse getting an ace to make me think I have a chance but then another ace, a king, and knowing I have the best draw to a 9, any card below 9 that isn't an ace a 6 or a 3 will win the pot ... and I pair my 3. Of course.
9-8-7-6-X was the winning hand.
Very next hand start out with three cards 6 or lower and catch 8 8 while he catches 3 7. Done with that one too.
I'm all the way down to 8000 chips and win half a stud 8 hand when I have 8-5-2-A-4-7 with four clubs. Any 3, any 6, any club and I'm scooping this pot ... and pair my 4 and only get half and I'm only up to 12k.
Back to 2-7, dealt 8-4-3-2 drawing 1 to 8-perfect and miss every draw pairing my 4 on the end.
Win blinds the last hand of 2-7.
Get quartered in 8b when I start with A-3-something-something with a suited ace and catch the nut low ... but they have the same low and two pair.
My last hand I start with A-2-8-K still in 8b with clubs and flop two clubs ... but never improve, no low, my flush would have lost anyway.
Brutal day.
For Father's Day we're just hanging out in a cabana. Patrick has already shown up as I'm typing this up and is hanging with us until he buys into the Wounded Warriors event at the WSOP. Joann and I are going to have dinner at Emeril's in MGM.
So there shouldn't be a BLOG Monday, but on Monday I 100% plan to play in the 11-game mix over at Orleans.
And I'm pondering staying another day and blowing off our Friday night poker night. We'll see ...
