| I was planning to play in a triple draw mix tournament at Orleans, but after telling Patrick we weren't going to eat we ended up doing an early lunch at Salt and Ivy and while the three of us were sitting there we called an audible ...
| Instead Patrick and I decided to play in the Daily Deepstack at the WSOP at 1pm with a backup plan to maybe do HORSE at 3PM if it didn't go well.
| It didn't go well for Patrick, he fired two bullets and then bought into a bracelet event and busted out 20 from the money. Ouch!
| And I thought what happened to me sucked ...
| Half hour in I call a raise to 1200 at 200/400/400 with KQ suited. Flop trips, river a boat, was called on bets of 2200 on the turn and 3500 on the river and got paid!
| Pick up aces but get the minimum. But ... had registered late and soon are on break with me sitting on almost 38,000 from my 25k starting stack. Nice start!
| 10 minutes after the break I raise out with 9-7 of clubs. One of the things that I've learned studying GTO is that suited connectors and suited one gappers like this are great hands to play because you either flop well or you don't, and when you don't you can just fold and move on but when it works out it can work out very well for you ...
| I get reraised by I think the small blind and I call.
| Flop comes 4-4-5 with two clubs. She leads out for 6000, I call.
| Turn 8 of clubs, I check raise all in and she snap calls with her pocket kings. No king of clubs, she's dead to a 4 or a king and gets no help.
| I'm around 65k.
| Win a couple pots, lose a couple pots all with two broadway cards.
| At 500/1000/1000 here I am with 7-5 of spades, another suited one gapper and I make it 2500 to go. Two callers, flop comes 5-6-J with a spade, pretty good flop! I lead out and get one skeptical caller.
| Turn a king of spades and he leads out into me and I call with my pair and flush draw and spike another spade and get called down on the river.
| 77k, triple a starting stack!
| Lose 10k flipping with a very short stack (77 vs KJ off), tho I did have a ton of outs on the river.
| Steal some blinds, 67k at the next break.
| First or second hand after the break I get all in preflop with AA vs KK and AA holds up, another takeout, 104k.
| Two hands later there's a raise from a short-ish stack and I re-raise with KK and he calls.
| Flop 7-6-T, he quickly jams and I snap call. He rolls over 99, needs an 8 or a 9 but no help and I'm wishing it was a bounty tournament!
| I'm at 154,000 and rolling!
| But give a chunk back when I call a 40k stack all in with 99 and lose to his aces. Seemed like someone who must be stealing shoving a 20 big blind stack and they had just come to the table ... I probably should have folded, but shoving 20BB seemed like too much. After playing with them a little bit I figured out they were an over-bettor.
| But work my way back up to 135k before our table is broken up.
| 1420 entrants, paying 213 places, 507 left and I'm well above average stack in great shape 300 from money so a long way to go.
| Go horribly card dead, but I get enough spots to steal blinds here and there and just maintain my stack.
| But in half an hour another 100 people bust out, another 70 in the next half hour. We get down to about 100 from the money when I finally pick up a hand ... ace king suited!
| A monster stack had just sat down at the table and was multi-tasking buying up 500 chips because we were getting ready to color up. He was clearly playing loose in the meantime.
| I raise out and he's the only caller. Flop A-9-3 with two diamonds and a club. I push in about 1/3 of my remaining stack. He thinks and calls.
| Turn a 6 of clubs, I go all in, he snap calls and rolls over A-5 of clubs.
| I'm 73/27 to double up to over 300k and take a real run at a nice payout, almost $40,000 on top ...
| Five on the river, out. 100 or so from the money.
| What a brutal way to go after such a good day to that point. Incredibly frustrating.
| Once again my plan for the day today is a triple draw mix, this time at the Nugget. As I'm typing this up I've dropped Joann off at the airport, I'm going to look over my options one more time and head out for whatever I make a final decision on but I'm most likely sticking with triple draw today. |
