Vegas June 2009 (WSOP)

Day Eight - "One Last"
Last Updated: 2009-06-20 04:38:47
Decided to try the Venetian Deep Stack one more time today. Remember all the complaining about getting no action ever with aces? Careful what you wish for. I got crippled about an hour into the tournament when some genius called me with Q-J suited, caught middle pair (flop K-J-rag) and continued to call me down only to hit runner-runner flush. Then with a chance to double up and get back in it I get all in with A-Q and run into A-7 and can't even beat that...ugh.
At this point Joann and I started talking about how pretty much everything we did today was going to be "one last" for a long time because next year is Hawaii and I'm assuming Vegas on top of that won't be in the cards. So we had "one last" meal at the Bellagio Buffet, supposedly to be our only meal of the day.
Joann won a few bucks at the craps table, then we did a little shopping and then decided to watch the red hot Rockies for an hour before playing "one last" poker tournament at Caesar's. The nightly 7pm tournament that's been kind to me in the past.
Not this night. Got some big hands early, couldn't get paid, went card dead, shoved with A-9 and ran into 10s and that was it for me.
Over to check on Joann and with the blinds at 200/400 and she has one, yellow 1000 chip left. I tell her if she doesn't get anything to play before the big blind just shove on the big blind without looking. Well, she woke up with pocket 7s and someone bet everyone else out with A-7 and Joann about tripled up. Next hand or the hand after she shoves again with A-3 and gets a flop of 5-6-7. 4 on the turn and she's doubled after tripling. Few hands later pocket Jacks, all in and one customer, Jacks hold up and just like that she's an average stack. At that point there were about 90 left from 150 to start and 18 paying.
Well, long story short, Joann did a great job of grinding it out with 10-20K chips for the next 5 or so hours and got herself in the money! Chip and a chair! Her track record for the trip, one cash in two tournaments, was considerably better than my one cash in 6 attempts.
Then it was "one last" late night meal at the cafe at Paris and it's time to call it a trip. We're going to get a few hours of sleep, get up a little early and hit the road.
