Vegas November 2009 (Deep Stack)

Day Three - going home
Last Updated: 2009-11-10 22:29:56
Within about 10 minutes of finishing up yesterday's entry I nodded off a little while, when I woke up I decided that I was too tired to play effectively so I just went to bed.
Woke up this morning and thought about going standby. For those who don't fly much and haven't tried to do standby in a long while, they don't really do it any more. Nowadays they charge you, generally in the $100 range, but they do confirm you in a seat. So they need to drop the term standby and come up with a term that means "we'll let you switch to any flight that has an open seat for $100 (or whatever)".
I was torn. The cheap bastard in me hates paying $100. But at that point I really just wanted to go home after what is surely my most successful November Vegas trip ever. So what to do...
Went over to Caesar's to cash in a video blackjack voucher from the night before that I forgot I had. I have to digress, I've done A LOT of things on this trip that I haven't done in a long time in Vegas. Drinking, video blackjack ... I don't know what's getting into me.
So I started heading back to the room, and there's a $5 craps table at the IP with nobody playing looking very lonely. What the hell, I'll plunk down $100.
Rolled an 8. Rolled another 8, got paid. Rolled a 10. Rolled another 8 (come bet). Rolled another 8 (come bet paid). Well long story short I ended up hitting four points on 4 different numbers (8, 10, 5 and 9), started seriously pressing my come bets and kept hitting, caught two hard 8s (how could I not throw money at 8) rolled my first 7 after hitting my 4th point so all my odds came back to me (a sign!), then threw two straight 11s, made a 4 which would have been my 5th different point (I asked if I could buy a fire bet, one dealer chuckled and one thought I was serious), rolled an 8 and then finally sevened-out.
$100 turned into $670 on one shooter (ME!), I even tipped the dealers for a change.
Well that made my decision easy. My standby is more than paid for, and I'm sitting at the airport right now waiting to board.
What a trip. Up almost two grand at the poker table, about 3/4 of a grand at the craps table, dead even at video poker.
Oh yeah, I had a $12 credit on my players card so I even got a small discount on my insanely cheap room.
I really can't wait to get home and be with my family. But I'm already wondering when I'm going to be able to come back...
