Vegas April 2011 (WSOPC)

Day 3 - Wynn, WSOPC
Last Updated: 2011-04-19 01:29:26
Short entry today after the long one yesterday.
Unfortunately I've played so much poker that it's all sort of blending togather.
Started out at the Planet Hollywood buffet, it was OK. Breakfast is breakfast. Back to the room for a short nap and then we headed down to the Wynn for the noon tournament. My run of cards from the previous night continued, I started out a little slow but eventually had some big hands. And I'm so tired that I can't remember a single one of them. But I do remember taking out a bunch of people. I was never a massive stack, but I was double average for a good chunk of the tournament.
Paying six, Leon and I get to final table of 10 and then the suckouts begin. I doubled up a couple of short stacks, got short, but the blinds and antes were so big that a couple of preflop all-ins that didn't get any action got me at least to comfort.
And then Leon did to me what he always does to me when the two of us get to a final table (and we do that a lot!). We're down to eight, I get A-8 suited and shove. Leon is the only caller, he turns over pocket 10s. Flop A-8-x with two hearts. Leon has the 10 of hearts. Heart on the turn, heart on the river...Leon cripples me and I go out on the next hand when I only had one big blind left. He ended up chopping four places, good for him!
I really wanted to play in the Omaha 8/b tournament at Caesars at 4:00, when I busted out it was 5:30. But I know they allow buyins intil 6:00 so I hustle down and get there with about 10 minutes to spare. Unfortunately since it was a limit tournament with big stacks there was little chance of a bustout and there were no open seats. I was an alternate and I had two ways to get in: 2 people had to bust out, or 3 more people had to buy-in so that they would have enough to start a new table. With less than a minute left in the break the 5th person they wanted bought in, so we started a new table 2 hrs into the tournament, all of us with full starting stacks.
Unfortunately things didn't go too well. Every time I'd have an A-2 or an A-3 I'd flop the 2 or 3 I didn't want to see or I'd flop 2-3 big cards. Most of the pots I won were with junk hands, I caught quad 7s twice on hands I'd never play except for being in the blinds. But none of my legitimate hands held up and I only lasted about 3.5 hours.
So I bought into the 10pm hold'em tournament, and the structure required a lot more aggression. Only 20 minute rounds, I made some good moves but eventually got all in on a coin flip (straight draw with overs against top pair) and lost.
So one cash and a bunch of "almosts". I'm happy with how I played, a little frustrated at getting so close to the money so many times and falling just short, but that's poker.
Next trip will be the WSOP week in June. Thanks for reading, as always!
