We have reservations at Paris again. We are in a rut as far as where we stay since I think this is at least three years in a row, but it's equal parts hotel and location.
Lets face it, when we go to Vegas the diet goes out the window and it's not like we're jumping on our elliptical every night. Paris is far enough away from where I'm going to do most of my poker playing to at least make us do some walking every day without being so far that we would start to mind having to walk "that far" at 3am...
One of these years we're going to splurge on Bellagio or Venetian again...but apparently this won't be the one.
On the downside, tho, our favorite 24 hr cafe at Paris for 2am dinners is no longer open 24 hrs so that's a bummer.
I do plan to cut back on poker this year, last year I played every day and played in two tournaments most of those days. Even for me it was just too much, I plan to spend more time with Joann enjoying Vegas instead of just grinding short stacks for 7-8 solid days while Joann finds other things to do...it is, after all, "our" vacation, not "my" vacation...
But "less poker" doesn't mean "no poker"! I've been monitoring the attendance at the various events and I think I've finally formulated a plan:
Sunday: $340 Deep Stack @ Venetian (636 and 654 players last two Sundays!)
Monday: Day two of the deep stack I hope, otherwise a day off
Tuesday: Either the noon $240 NLH or the 4:00 PLO at the Caesar's Mega Stack Tournament Series if I didn't play Monday
Wednesday: WSOP Event #39, PLH/PLO mix
Thursday: Day two of WSOP, or a very interesting option at Caesars
Friday: Day three of the WSOP, or probably a day off
Saturday: NLH or PLO at Caesars. Tough call, NLH at noon, PLO at 4pm but we're leaving the next morning so how late do I want to risk being up, 'cause I really want to play PLO...
The "very interesting option" at Caesar's is a 5-card, 6-handed PL Omaha 8/b tournament. Same 8/b rules we all know and love except you get 5 cards in your hand instead of four and because so many cards are dealt you only play w/ six players. This sounds very intriguing!
The Poker Classic at Binions would only interest me for non-hold'em games and their attendance so far this summer has sucked. Ditto Golden Nugget, but I can't find attendance numbers so I'm assuming not great. So that leaves me pretty much with Venetian and Caesars.
At a high level, I'm tired of trying to wade through all of the pros at Venetian, it's a very tough field. OTOH Caesar's has had attendance problems because the last couple of years "everyone" is playing at Venetian.
So far this summer, however, Caesar's has had very respectable numbers with one exception. Sunday the 5th Venetian had a $340 buyin and got over 600 players. Caesar's is getting in the 200's and 300's for almost every tournament, but on that day they only got 144. So guess which one I'm gonna play in on the Sunday we're there...
