Vegas June 2011 (WSOP)

Days 1 and 2
Last Updated: 2011-06-20 03:35:30
So far the first two days have been fairly uneventful so this will be short.
Easy drive out, 11:15 or so was the total time including gas stops. Only a few minor slowdowns for construction. Real happy that Utah has 80MPH zones...
Walked down to Mandalay Bay after checking in for the mostly seafood buffet. I actually had seafood for a change, if having 3 crab legs counts. Walked back through NY NY, Monte Carlo, City Center, Bellagio, and Caesars.
Joann went back to room and I walked to Venetian to buy in to Sunday's Deep Stack.
While I was there, I decided to check out the PLO cash tables. I was hoping to sit in on one and practice my PLO game, but literally every hand had a raise and four callers or a raise and a re-raise and four callers. Saw pocket aces hold up twice four handed and all-in in the space of ten minutes in $500+ pots. That's just too rich for my blood. For those not very familiar w/ omaha, pocket aces not nearly as valuable as they are in hold'em.
So on to day two.
Brunch at the Bellagio Buffet. No need to repeat myself, best buffet on the planet. And as I mentioned on Facebook, Joann got her money's worth out of the champagne fee.
Unfortunatley, the deep stack didn't go too great. Flopped a set early and got little for it and pretty much only won small pots and lost big pots. The highlight of my day was cracking aces with A-8 suited when I caught runner, runner flush after being all-in preflop.
Meanwhile, Leon had bought into the $1,000 WSOP event and went from 3000 to over 20K in the first few hours.
We went over to Caesar's for the 7 o'clock tournament and it was pretty much the same story. Again, flopped a set early against a loose player and still couldn't get paid, won small pots and lost big pots. Eventually got all-in on a coin flip and lost.
Had a late dinner at Planet Hollywood where apparently the Miss USA pageant had gone on because we saw lots of women wearing sashes and saw replays of the event on the TVs in the restaurant.
We then headed over to Rio to see how Leon was doing. While we were there he chipped up to about 33K and the money bubble burst on the last hand of the night. Leon is in pretty good shape going into day 2. Good for him!
Tomorrow I'm going to play in the Caesar's Mega Stack at noon.
