Vegas November 2012

Day 5 - Stuck
Last Updated: 2012-11-08 00:08:43
Well I don't have any poker to talk about, but Patrick wanted to know when I was going to talk about the state of IP so this will be it. First a quick rundown of my day:
Lunch at Bellagio Buffet one more time. I learned that the key if you want lunch is to get there after noon. Yes, they are just very slow about changing over from breakfast. Today I could still get an omelet and there was lots of pans of breakfast stuff, but this time they started pulling those pans earlier than Monday and by the time I left there wasn't a lot of breakfast left.
1:00 tournament at Aria was ugly. Card dead the whole time, every time I tried to make a move I ran into a hand, had to make moves because I had no cards. Busted out, rebought, more of the same, done by round 6.
Back to the room, hung out, charged my batteries, back to Aria for the 7:00, more of the same, lasted long enough that I couldn't rebuy. Done with poker.
The card dead tournaments don't bother me. But I had a few deep runs and got terribly unlucky and I'm leaving Vegas pretty frustrated. This came very close to being a very good trip instead of a total bust. So now on to the IP....
The entire front part of the building is in rebuilding mode. As Tommy had told me, they have created a walkway using the right hand lane in the street that is entirely scaffolding. Anyone who has walked the strip probably remembers that the IP had a bar out on the strip and a driveway that looped around behind the bar to the front door.
Well the bar is gutted, it's just concrete and metal frame. The front face of the building is mostly stripped off. They created a tunnel where the driveway used to be from the casino area to the street, and it's just all open air. There are no doors to the casino.
Oh and you come out between the IP and where O'Shays(?) used to be, so I haven't seen what it looks like on the Harrah's side because I just haven't had a reason to go that direction.
The casino floor looks like you would remember, but the old front desk area on one side and the bar/restaurant area on the other side are all barricaded off presumably being rebuilt. They have a temporary front desk closer to the elevators. As a result, the casino feels very narrow but in reality is probably exactly as wide as it always was.
The problem with the setup is that there is no place out front for taxis/shuttles/etc. So when I got dropped off by the shuttle bus from the airport, I was let off at the back of the resort. I say resort, not hotel, because we're talking not just behind the hotel itself but also behind the parking deck and the monorail tracks. To get to the front desk after being dropped off you have to walk through a series of doors, through the pet walking area, through the bus depot, up one escalator, back down another escalator, through the shops, through the casino and past all the elevators.
I didn't think the IP could possibly get any more ghetto, but somehow they managed.
On the plus side, the base of the giant ferris wheel is taking shape. I thought that I had heard that it was going up where O'Shays was and that was the reason O'Shays was being torn down, but apparently not. It's going behind the IP. Either that or they are building something that looks like it could be the base of a ferris wheel that is actually something completely different back there.
Well that's all I got. Thanks as always for reading. I hope that there will be an April trip this year but with my job situation up in the air it's way too early for me to know what's going to happen.
