Vegas July 2014 - Main Event satellite

Days 1 and 2 - Just hangin' around
Last Updated: 2014-07-05 10:49:24
Four days in Vegas, four days at home and back to Vegas...
After telling Joann I didn't need to run the GPS to remind me what was the best way to get out of town, I drove right by the first exit I needed to take and we took an alternate route. No matter, even with a little traffic it was still about the same drive time.
Got to the room, and we almost didn't have one. Apparently when I changed the dates there was some confusion, I never got an updated confirmation and apparently Aria had us arriving the next day. But after a lengthy chat presumably with the person that had to approve it, the woman checking us in finally said "It's been fixed" and sent us on our way.
We're a little nervous about what the bill is going to look like. Yeah it's a Thursday...but it's Thursday night on a holiday Friday and I'm guessing this place is packed.
We take our stuff up to our room and then meet up with Nikki and Tom. Nikki is the person I work with most closely at Boeing and just happens to have eerily similar personality traits to Joann. I said from the first week that I got to Chandler that at some point I was going to refer to one of them by the others name...I still haven't, but I still have a little time...
So we get some food, have a few drinks and chat for a while. They rode Tom's motorcycle in 110+ heat from Phoenix to Bryce and Zion Nat'l Parks and then down here. It was a little warm...
They head up to their room, Joann decides to hit one of her favorite slots before we go up ourselves and, well, let's just say manages an over 550% profit on her investment. Joann's ROI in 20 minutes of slots destroys my ROI on 4 days of poker once again!
Friday was more hanging around. We actually did a more stereotypical Vegas day for a change. Hit the pool, had lunch at a buffet, hooked up with Nikki and Tom, cruised a mall, did a little drinking...got dinner, did a little more drinking...watched the fireworks, did a little more drinking...gambled a little, did a little more drinking...
Honestly I probably had more drinks in the last two days than I've had in the last two years combined here in Vegas. I need to make a point of taking a break from the poker stresses a little more when we come out on long trips.
Having said that, the party is over at least for a day on Saturday. The plan is to play in a Mega-satellite to the main event at 8pm. Hate that late start time, but with 20% or so of the field winning seats it shouldn't go too late.
If I win a seat I intend to play in Day 1B on Sunday.
Wish me luck!
