Vegas June 2015 (WSOP)

Day 10 - Out with a wimper...
Last Updated: 2015-06-16 03:02:59
Sunday was a good day. Monday, unfortunately, not so much. Not a whole lot went right.
Bellagio Buffet one more time for our last big meal of the trip. We had our fill of In-N-Out already and didn't want to stray too far because we slept a little later than usual and wanted to make sure I got back in time for the 1:00 at Aria.
And that didn't work out too well. I got to the Aria Poker Room about 5 minutes before the tournament started and I was 56th on the waitlist. They had several unused tables, but not enough dealers for those tables. I made the decision that I didn't want to get into the tournament likely well into the 4th round at best so I decided to go back to the Rio.
When Joann and I actually left the hotel over an hour later they were only up to #37 on the waitlist, so I was happy with the decision as much as I would have preferred a smaller tournament.
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to suffer playing with WSOP chips again...:-)
The first round was great. I picked up Kings and got paid. Then I floated a flop with pocket 2s planning to steal it and hit runner-runner-double-gutshot straight (flop 9-5-3, turn ace, river 4) and if I'm to believe the other guy I had drawn out on a flopped set. Nice!
But that was really it for me in the tournament. From that point on I couldn't hit flops and picked the absolute worst times to try and steal anything. I wasn't getting called, I was having people go over the top of me left and right on river bets. And I don't think it was just aggression, these guys generally weren't making river bets with air. Never saw any of them get caught on the river.
Eventually I did get one double-up with AK winning over a pair of Jacks but with blinds going up rapidly that just sent me from desperate to uncomfortable. Eventually I went all in with an ace, ran into Queens and got no help.
That was right around 7:00, so we headed back to Aria planning to make the 7PM tournament my last of the trip.
Got there about 7:20, already well over 80 on the waitlist.
So...a little dinner, a little shopping and we called it "a trip". Stick a fork in us, we're done.
From a monetary standpoint it would be hard for me to say it went well. But from a poker standpoint, I'm overall very happy. About 10 tournaments, 2 cashes (a good rate!), fairly deep runs in both WSOP tournaments and a couple of other deep tho not cash runs in the others. I did have some bad ones as well, but all-in-all I'm very happy with my play and I did about as much as I could with what I had to work with. My WSOP tournaments, especially the monster stack, each turned on one hand that if I hadn't gotten unlucky would have meant a day-2 run and who knows what would have happened from there.
Thanks everyone for reading. I appreciate it!
I'm not sure what the future holds, I don't know when my next poker trip will be. Being honest, once we buy this new house we're going to be a little "house poor" for a while. I'm not sure fall and spring trips are going to be in the cards, much less the June trip. But you never know what can happen!
