Vegas June 2017 (WSOP)

Planning
Last Updated: 2017-03-09 09:56:43
UPDATE: There will be no tag team event for me this year. None of the guys I was hoping to play in it with are able to make it, and as I said below it wasn't a great time for me either. Instead we're adding a day up front so I can play in something else...date below corrected to reflect the change...
When they announced the "Flagship Weekend Events" for the World Series of Poker in mid-January I also happened to get a great offer on rates from Aria, our favorite hotel for June trips, around the same time so I made our hotel reservation built around the announced Monster Stack tournament. But it was tentative until the full schedule came out.
The full schedule came out later in January, about a month earlier than last year, and the plan didn't change. Even though I only plan to play in one event, I always want a week that offers multiple tournaments I would like to play in just in case I have a really good day and suddenly have a big bankroll.
I am planning to play in the Monster Stack tournament this year and I think that is very unlikely to change. Scratch that...it's NOT going to change. The only way I would miss it would be if I were to play in a certain Friday tournament (see below), make final table and be unavailable for the Monster Stack on Sunday.
Here's a list of what I'd play in while we're there in addition to the Monster Stack if money was no object:
Alas I do not have that kind of bankroll...
Well, not for all of them anyway...there is that red-headed devil that can appear on my shoulder so you never know what could happen...
So the trip is booked and the plan is in place. Joann and I are staying at Aria June 15-27, at least for now. Last year I got a crazy good rate at NYNY for the first weekend of our stay so we spent a few nights there and switched over after the first weekend. Right now, however, NYNY's rates are actually about the same as Aria for those first two nights so there's no reason to split it. If NYNY comes down like last year, tho, we will probably split between the hotels to save a few bucks.
Patrick, who played in the Tag Team with me last year, is going out for the weekend of the Monster stack and is not planning to play in the Tag Team this year.
The Monster Stack tournament has two starting days June 24-25. I will likely play the 25th, and as always I booked through "day two" and will gladly add a day onto the end at whatever rate if I were to make Day 3.
And finally, the $1K Tag Team event this year is early in the WSOP rather than late and it's not at the most convenient time for me. I'm seeing a concert 2 days before it, which means I would have to travel out the day before and get no warmup and would probably only plan on playing the three days that tournament lasts...but that doesn't mean I'm not playing in it!!! The upside is it's all weekdays, I can surely get a cheap rate at a hotel and splitting the buyin 2-4 ways makes it cheap to play in. And it really was a fantastic experience last year. It got so much buzz they added a $10K tag team this year as well. Hopefully the big-time pros will decide to do both...
So...I just don't know yet. I've put out a feeler, I might put out another...if someone says "let's do it" I'm in!
