| The original plan was that Joann and I were going to drive out together Thursday and Joann was going to fly back Sunday night or Monday morning. We'd spend a weekend hanging out in Vegas, I'd get in some poker tournaments after Joann left, everybody wins! If Joann had to back out for some reason, I'd just make the trip shorter.

| Two things changed since then:
|
- Joann and I decided to go to a System of a Down concert in October. What does that have to do with the November trip? The concert is in Vegas, we're going out for the weekend. That gets Joann her fall Vegas trip.
- I got comped for 3 of the 6 nights and got awfully low rates for the rest of the nights. If you ever book MGM resorts, even if you think you got a good deal, always check back with them later. Your good deal could become a great deal...
- UPDATE: And a third thing has changed, I've booked yet another weekend for Joann and I in December so we can go out there and do...NOTHING! Well, nothing in particular anyway...two of the three nights comped!! How can I pass that up??

| So...I'm still planning to go for the whole trip because I can't pass up the rates, but as of today (a little over two months before the trip) I'm going solo.

| I'm heading out first thing Thursday morning instead of when Joann gets off work so that I can get there in time to watch the Packers/Seahawks game on Thursday Night Football, so Thursday will not be a poker night. Poker will be Friday through Tuesday, drive home Wednesday in time for Thanksgiving.

| And being by myself means I can keep the trip awfully cheap. A big part of Joann's vacation is the food, and not that I don't enjoy the restaurants we eat in but most days I'll be good with In-N-Out, a burrito and/or late night pizza. Tho I'm not totally cheap, there will probably be a black and tan or three at Tom's Urban! Particularly on football Sunday. Nothing like a Black and Tan around 10am while watching the Eagles!!! It'll be lunchtime somewhere...

| Joann hasn't gone with me on a fall trip for a while, but the plan is that she's coming with me this time. We'll drive out Thursday after work and spend Friday and Saturday together. Then I'll take her to the airport Sunday and stay to play poker Sunday night through Tuesday, drive home Wednesday just in time for Thanksgiving.

| I was making some changes to our July family trip (Moab, Vegas, Zion) and while I was there I checked the rates for November. As it happened the rates for one of Joann's weekends off were pretty cheap at NYNY so we booked it.

| A lot of things can change between now and then.
|
| Joann works every other weekend but recently found out that they frown on taking too many "work weekends" off. They expect employees to schedule around the weekends they're already off (not unreasonable...) and for now this is a non-work weekend for her. That's why I was modifying the family trip, to avoid a weekend workday. But there's some possibility she could move on to a different position and have her schedule change between now and then. And if she does get scheduled to work, no chance of a weekend off for her in November that she's supposed to work.

| We have a reservation, we have a plan, just need to see if that weekend stays good for us. Easy enough to go with a different weekend (tho would certainly cost more and/or result in a hotel downgrade to Luxor or something, I got some really good rates for NYNY on a weekend), and if Joann couldn't go at all then I'd just do a shorter "poker only" trip myself. |
