Vegas June 2019 (WSOP)

Day 3 - Fast exit at Aria
Last Updated: 2019-06-08 10:40:22
Not much to talk about today and shouldn't be much to talk about tomorrow, just FYI.
After my morning Starbucks I ran Dave over to the Rio to get him bought in for Event #19, the Millionaire Maker. Heard Jamie Kerstetter quip on a live stream that the poker pros who are already millionaires should be banned since they can't be made into one, can they?
Dave will in the Pavilion Room at table White 122 today.
Back over to Aria, we all catch some rays at the pool and then split up so Dave can go play in the 11am at Aria and Joann and I can hit the bank.
With Dave playing in the WSOP Saturday, he didn't want to be up all night Friday hence the 11am. I'm taking Saturday off from poker so I decided to wait for the 7.
Dave got quite deep in the 11. But when they were down to about 45 players paying 27 (out of I think 235) Dave made the mistake of picking up aces, got into a 3-way all in vs 10's and Q's and a ten hit crippling Dave. He was down to 18K with blinds 2k/4k/4k, did double up once but then picked up AQ, ran into aces and was done.
While he was doubling and busting I took my seat in the 7pm.
It did not go well.
Third hand in I make the mistake of picking up aces and get them cracked by 7-4. He rivered trips. They were suited so what else was he do to against an under the gun raise?
Lost another chunk when I flopped top pair, decent kicker and ran into bottom two pair that became a boat by the river. IMHO I lost the minimum. And, honestly, he made a mistake that he think cost him chips but I think earned him some.
He grabbed two 1000 chips for his river bet, but when he tried to toss them one stuck to his finger and dropped straight down while the other went out into the table. He tried to finish pushing out the second one but the dealer flicked it back to his stack as a string bet.
I'm 99.99% sure I'm not calling 2000 there. But I think I have to make the call for 1000 given the pot size (which was probably in the 3k range). I suppose if I took longer to think about it I might have decided that I should have gotten away because he wanted to bet 2000 and even saved the 1000.
But my point to him was I wasn't calling 2000, no chance. Too many hands that beat me at that price. The dealer flicking that chip earned him 1000, it didn't cost him another 1000 on top.
Busted out with JJ on an 8-4-2 board when I ran into aces, naturally. Same guy that cracked my aces with 7-4. Lasted no more than 30 minutes.
That's it! All I got!
Ran back over to Rio to get my buyin over with, since I expect the Rio to be insane with 1B of the Millionaire Maker today. I will be in the Amazon room at table Purple 466, seat 1.
Usually I'd go into some rant/whine about the 1-seat ... but not for the 8-game.
First of all I assume we're playing 6-handed as we did last time. That means two things:
  1. With only 6 chairs the 1- and 6- seats can move away from the dealer out to at or near where the normal 2-seat would be
  2. 1/3 of the time you're next to the dealer so you gotta get over it
So you know what Dave is doing, for Joann and I it's shopping and Date Night tonight!
After a 2-year hiatus Smith and Wollensky reopened at the Venetian. Absolutely no question it's our favorite restaurant anywhere so we've really been missing it the last couple of years.
OK that's really all I got for today, and again don't expect too much tomorrow. But...you never know, even shopping and having dinner I can somehow manage to come up with a story most of the time.
