Vegas June 2007 (WSOP)

Day Seven (Going Home)
Last Updated: 2007-06-30
The drive home was mostly uneventful. The tape came off the roof immediately so we had to stop at WalMart to get needle and thread. Joann sewed it up and I wish we'd just done that in the first place because it held up great. At that point our only concern was weather and thankfully it was clear skies the entire drive home. And again it was right about 11 hours end-to-end.
So outside of the damage to the car one would have to say it was an incredibly successful trip. I played in the World Series of Poker and didn't cash in it, but somehow we managed to come home with more money in our pockets than we left with and I could be wrong, but I believe this was the first time ever that both Joann and myself were ahead on the same trip.
Absolutely 100% we are going back next year and I'm playing in the WSOP again. The trip will be planned around the $2000 buy-in Omaha 8/b tournament, I want the extra starting chips I'll get in the higher buy-in. Based on the players around me in the one I played in this year I'm convinced I can compete at that level in that game, but even with the long levels at 3000 chips unless you get lucky early or are very loose (which is not my style of play) and can quickly steal your way to a big early stack you need the buffer of having more chips to start.
As soon as the schedule comes out we're going to plan our dates, so if you were sorry you missed out this year get ready to mark your calendars.
Just a few other notes...
7 tournaments, 3 cashes, in one case outlasting 359 competitors
I spent 6 days in Las Vegas and did not have a drop of alchohol.
I spent 6 days in Las Vegas playing poker almost continuously and did not play in a single cash game
I believe for the first time in my life I was in Las Vegas for any amount of time and did not play a single hand of BlackJack. Nor did I play slots or actually gamble any other way except for probably a total of one hour at the craps table (3 sessions, all winners, certainly also a first)
Little hint if you ever stay at Paris, when you check in ask for a corner room. They're a little bigger and you just might get a partial strip view without paying for one.
If you drive to Vegas in a convertable, valet your car every time. Apparently cutting through roofs is a known theft methodology.
Thanks again for reading, hope I at least entertained a little...
