Day 3 - Hold'em at Orleans
Last Updated: 2022-06-25 10:50:08
This is gonna be short...
Wrote the Day 2 BLOG at Starbucks while Joann slept in, proofread back in the room and posted it. Joann and I hit the pool for the first time to get a little vitamin D and then it was on to Orleans for No-Limit Hold'Em. Bought in on time instead of registering late.
I thought I was card dead the last two days. This was brutal. I have very little to talk about...
Middle of the first level I raise out with pocket 5s and get two callers. Flop comes A-5-Q. Someone had to have hit that flop so I continuation bet ... and everyone folds. Pick up a few small pots here and there, but mostly card dead and an hour in I'm right around starting stack.
About 10 minutes after that I look down at pocket queens. I raise out, two callers, king high flop. I call one bet of 1500 from an aggressive player but go away when he bets again on a blank turn.
I raise out in position with Q-J of diamonds and get two callers. Flop comes T-A-8 with one diamond so two way straight draw and a backdoor diamond draw. Checks to me and I make it 2100 to go and get check-raised to 5200. I call that, turn is a blank, they go all in into me and I think a while and fold. Was not getting the right odds with 8 outs once.
Then lose another chunk raising out with A-6, get reraised by an aggressive player so I call. Every street gets checked down, she had A-K, nobody pairs, she wins. Down to 9k from a 20k starting stack.
Now under 20 big blinds a few hands later I'm in a 3-way pot and defend my big blind with Q-9 suited. Flop comes J-9-X, I shove with my middle pair trying to take down the pot. Other person had Q-T suited for straight and flush draws, they catch the flush, done.
I decide to rebuy. I can tell it's a soft tournament, sooner or later things will balance out and I'll actually get some cards...
They hand me the seat card for the seat a just vacated. I ask for a different table and they oblige, tho again I'm in the 3 seat at the new table.
I pay blinds and go on break. 19k at the break :-)
I lost count of how many times I looked down at an ace ... and then a 6.
I finally get A-K! But first to act, raise out, everyone folds, just blinds and antes.
6 consecutive starting hands: 83 83 J2 J9 (raise into me) 85 85.
Fall under 20 bigs again, looking for the right hand...
I get saved from blinds as our table breaks up and I get moved to another 3-seat. Maybe that's the problem!
Get away with two all-ins to steal blinds with two broadway card hands. K-T and K-J I think.
In the big blind look down at Q-Q ... and watch the entire table fold and give me a walk. Seriously.
Steal blinds again all in with A-T suited in hearts.
A-K under the gun again, make it 2500 to go, no callers, just blinds.
Raise out with K-Q. Blinds are about to go up, I made it 2500 and someone else goes all in. I decide to go with the hand, I'm getting the right odds and I can't get any action when I get decent hands.
I'm up against A-J. Not bad, 40/60, I'll take it.
789 flop, 10 turn to give him a straight, no river jack to save me. Done for the second time in a couple hours.
Dinner at Eataly in Park MGM.
Saturday is going to be a much needed day off at this point. I will not be doing a Sunday morning BLOG just to talk about shopping :-)
Hopefully things will turn around Sunday in the Tag Team event with Matt G. Then again, the way it's going for me maybe Matt should think about a different partner :-)

That early 2.5 to 3 BBs is only reasonable raise. I'm not trying to get people to fold with QQ that would be foolish, sometimes it doesn't work out...
