Vegas June 2023 (WSOP)

We are booked at Vdara June 7th through the 24th.

Every year we say we're going to shorten it, and every year we don't. Sometimes we even make it even longer. In this case I got a great rate and blocked out the max knowing we can just lop off days at either end if we want to.

I can say with great confidence we will not be lengthening this. I've got my vacation time and flexing planned out for the year, as booked this will put me over my vacation "budget" I had for this trip so it's very possible we will shorten but there is almost no chance I'll put myself further over vacation budget.

Since I can cash out unused vacation time every year, and that's now my June poker fund, every hour of vacation time I take is money out of my pocket so going over budget makes the trip more expensive.

But ... once the schedules come out and I realize there's something I really want to play in on our first day and something else I really want to play in near the end of the trip that is multi-day and requires me to make sure I've got a room ... well ... that's why it never gets shortened and why I'll probably go a little over budget on vacation time.

I would say the most likely change we'd make would be to plan to come home Saturday instead of Sunday to have a day at home before going back to work after being gone so long, especially with Saturdays always being the highest room rates on these trips.

...and no sooner do I save this entry and WSOP announces dates and major weekend events. Seniors event will start middle of the last week of the trip, final table should be that last Sunday and I'll almost certainly be playing in that event.

UPDATE: The 2023 WSOP schedule came out 2/2, so it's time to create the "what I would play in if I had infinite resources" table. Right now it's all WSOP, but as other casinos put out their schedules I will update to include what I'd play in outside the WSOP (which will really be the majority of the trip)

This year I'm intending to play in the Seniors event rather than the tag team but if my last years teammate twisted my arm it would be hard to say no after our deep run last year :-)

Oh and "brand new" for this year is Badugi on the day we drive out. Of course it is. Joann has a concert the night before she's been waiting over three years to see because of COVID so we have a hard "can't go a day early" restriction. But that's probably the one that's absolutely 100% I'm playing in. How do I not???

ADDED NOTE: I was able to get our Scotland trip a little under vacation time budget so the vacation time part is working out. But this will only be lengthened if Matt and I make final table, see chart. Also that means I will NOT be playing in Seniors for the same reason.
