Vegas June 2025 (WSOP Part 1) |
| Day 8 - WSOP Daily Deepstack |
| Last Updated: 2025-06-24 02:19:11 |
| My week-plus started out great, but will end with a whimper.
| Two cashes in my first four tournaments and both of them well more than the minimum cash!
| But after that, nothing much to talk about. Three solidly card-dead days, and the last hand I played was quite the twisting of the knife...
| Like both of the previous two days I started out great.
| $250 WSOP Daily Deepstack to finish the trip, and last I looked they were close to 900 entries. Didn't bother looking at the final count but easily could have cracked 1000.
| First half hour level I took down some pots here and there, no particularly interesting hands but I was chipping up nicely.
| Second level every time I raised out preflop I completely missed every flop. If I continuation bet with air I got called, if I didn't I got bet out of the pot.
| I don't think I played a single hand in level 3. Part of the problem with this level was that there were three successive short stacks who were picking spots to go all-in. When there is someone just going all-in every three hands it's awful hard to pick spots to steal blinds or light 3-bet, so I was pretty well handcuffed getting no cards.
| Level 4 no better.
| 18,600 chips at the break down from 25,000 at the start.
| Short stacks either gone or doubled and re-doubled, but level 5 again nothing I could do anything with. Hard to believe how bad my cards were.
| Until ... I got moved to combine tables.
| I move to a new table, short stacked as it is and I'm immediately in the big blind.
| Early to act raises to 1500 at 300/600/600 blinds. A couple folds and woman makes it 3500 to go.
| Folds to me and I look down at pocket kings. What a miracle!
| I go all-in for 16,100. Original raiser folds, woman quickly calls and rolls over 99.
| 9 on the river. Done.
| Are you fucking kidding me?
| Long, heavy sigh...
| My 8 days are done. End of the day, two deep runs that resulted in almost triple my buyin and 4.5 times my buyin are a helluva week-ish!!! If you told me up front that's what I was looking at I'd take it!!!
| But ... these last three days are kinda disheartening. Four great days and three brutal days (with a day off in there somewhere :-) ) leave me a little frustrated in spite of the success.
| Dinner was "good but not as good as Sirocco's pizza" from "Moneyline" at Aria. Aside from that, did everything I could to kill the bottle of Rowan's Creek Bourbon (Willett Distillery!!!) I brought with me and cracked open for the second half of the trip.
| Tuesday I fly home, I'm home for 8 days and come right back!
| Setting expectations, unlike our usual long trips I do not plan to play poker every day. The plan is that the day we arrive or the next day I'm going to try and satellite into the Main Event. As I type this up I expect that we will fly in mid-day Wednesday, I will take my shot that evening and then either I'm playing on the 3rd or I'm done.
| If I'm in, I play the third and if I survive that day I play the 6th, and then as long as I'm alive every day starting the 8th.
| If things don't go well I may play more of these 1pm dailies but more likely I plan to just jump into cash games from time to time. I seriously talk a lot about doing cash games instead of tournaments and as I type this up I'm determined to finally make good on what I've been threatening for years!
| If I'm in the main, I will reliably BLOG as long as I survive. If not, then whenever I play some cash I will write up my day but how often I play will be spotty so BLOGing will be just as spotty! Or write up dailies if they're still running them and I buy in. |
